New Delhi. Gauri Shankar Temple, which was closed for 44 years, was opened in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh. During the excavation of the sanctum sanctorum of this temple, a broken Shivalinga was found there. Along with this, years old fragmented idols of goddesses have also been found in the excavation. Among the fragmented idols, idols of Shiva family have been found which are said to be of Mata Gauri, Lord Ganesha and Lord Kartikeya. Besides, a broken statue of Hanuman ji was also found there. The priest of this temple was killed in the riots of 1980, since then this temple was closed. This temple is built in the drain area of Jhabbu in Nagfani area of the city. This area is Muslim dominated.
Uttar Pradesh: A temple which was closed for 40 years opened in Moradabad. Sculptures were found during excavation inside the temple. It is said that this temple was closed after the murder of the priest in 1980. A complaint was made to the DM about closing the temple by building an illegal wall. Moradabad president of Hindu Suraksha Trust, Ram Rajput, had submitted an application to the administration a few days ago to open this temple. Ram Rajput had claimed ownership of the temple by reaching the District Magistrate’s office with the map of the temple. After this application, the administration team reached there and started the cleaning work. Today, under the leadership of SDM Sadar Ram Mohan Meena, the administration and municipal corporation team reached the temple site and got it opened. During this time CO City Sunita Dahiya was also present there with heavy police force.
After the temple was opened, the sanctum sanctorum was excavated in which ancient but fragmented statues of goddesses and devotees were found. The excavation work will continue further also. Earlier, when the administration team had taken stock of the situation there, there was a wall which had been erected in front of the temple. Apart from this, there were huge bushes and dirt around the temple. First the wall was demolished with the help of bulldozer and the dirt was cleaned. After this the lock of the temple was opened today.
