The biggest income tax raid of Rs 352 crore in Odisha created a stir across the country. 36 cash machines started working.

Income tax raids make headlines from time to time, but the country’s biggest raid created such records that it forced officials to resort to manual calculations. This raid took place in the Indian state of Odisha, which lasted for 10 days.

Under this mega campaign, Income Tax officials raided various departments of the liquor manufacturing company, Buddhist Distilleries Private Limited. Cash worth Rs 352 crore was seized in this raid.

The seriousness of this raid can be gauged from the fact that during the raid the Income Tax Department used a machine with a scanning wheel to detect assets hidden under the ground. Income Tax Department teams carried out this operation, raiding various places.

During this time, three dozen machines were ordered to count bank notes. Due to recovery of huge amount of cash, help of employees of various banks had to be taken. Eventually, the seized money was loaded into a truck amid tight security and deposited in the Income Tax Department.

For this unprecedented action, the Central Government honored the officers who carried out the Income Tax raid in Odisha in August this year. This Income Tax raid was led by Principal Director of Income Tax Investigation, officer S.K. Jha and Additional Director, Gurpreet Singh.
