The central government on Monday announced a 24 percent increase in salary of Members of Parliament from April 1, 2023 on the basis of cost inflation index.
The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs issued a notification, which includes additional pension for each year of pension for existing members and each year of serving more than five years for former members.
New pay scale of members of Parliament
Members of Parliament will now get salary of Rs 1.24 lakh per month, whereas earlier they used to get Rs 1 lakh per month. The notification states that daily allowance has also been increased from Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,500.
The pension of former MPs has been increased from Rs 25,000 per month to Rs 31,000 per month. The additional pension for each year of service for more than five years has been increased from Rs 2,000 per month to Rs 2,500 per month.
The Income Tax Act 1961 has notified the increase in salary using the salary, allowances and powers given under the Pension Act of Members of Parliament based on the cost inflation index.
