The central government on Wednesday approved the construction of 12 industrial smart cities (parks) under the National Industrial Corridor Program. These parks will be built along six industrial corridors in 10 states of the country. Two parks will be built in Agra and Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, two in Andhra Pradesh, and one each in other states like Uttarakhand, Punjab, Bihar, Rajasthan, Kerala, Telangana and Maharashtra.
Important facts:
Uttar Pradesh: Two industrial parks will be set up in Agra and Prayagraj. Other states: One park each will be set up in Uttarakhand (Khurpiya), Punjab, Bihar (Gaya), Rajasthan, Kerala, Telangana and Maharashtra. Investment and employment: Rs 28,602 crore will be spent on the construction of these parks, which will bring an investment of more than Rs 1.5 lakh crore and create more than 10 lakh employment opportunities.
Railway projects also approved:
Three new rail line projects: The Cabinet has also approved three new rail line projects costing Rs 6,456 crore. These include Jamshedpur-Purlia-Asansol (121 km), Sardega-Bhalumunda (37 km) and Bargarh Road-Nawapara (138 km).
