Udaipur: Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Girija Vyas died on Thursday in a hospital in Ahmedabad. She was 79 years old. Family sources gave this information. According to family members, on 31 March this year, she was severely scorched while performing aarti in her house in Udaipur city of Rajasthan. Vyas was then immediately rushed to a private hospital in Udaipur, where he was first aid and later referred to Ahmedabad for further treatment.

His brother Gopal Sharma said that he died in a hospital in Ahmedabad on Thursday evening and he will be cremated in Udaipur on Friday. According to family members, Vyas was worshiping Gangaur at home. She was performing aarti, while the lamp burning below her dupatta caught fire and family members took her to the hospital.
His condition continued to deteriorate due to burning of up to 90% and eventually breathed his last at the Zaidus Hospital in Ahmedabad. According to family members, his body is being brought to Udaipur, where his last darshan and funeral are being arranged.
