The death toll in Telangana's pharma factory explosion is 34, PM Modi announces compensation

The death toll in Sigachi Pharma Industries blast in Sangreddy district of Telangana has increased to 34, officials confirmed this on Tuesday, while rescue operations are on at the explosion site.

According to officials, more than a dozen workers were injured in an explosion in a chemical factory in Pasamalaram Phase 1 area of ​​Sangreddy district of Telangana on Monday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed grief over the death of people in the explosion at Sigachi Pharma Chemical Factory in Sangreddy district of Telangana.

The Prime Minister also announced an ex -gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh to the relative near each deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.

Union Minister and Telangana BJP chief G Kishan Reddy offered full support to the state government in relief work after an explosion at a chemical factory in Sangreddy, Telangana. The explosion killed at least 34 people and injured several.

Kishan Reddy told reporters, “NDRF, police and other agencies are engaged in relief operations. The families of the dead will be given two lakh rupees each and a central financial assistance of Rs 50,000 to the injured. BJP will never do politics on such issues. We will cooperate fully in relief work. The state government should take all steps to prevent such accidents.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also expressed grief over the blast. Shah said in a post on X, “I am saddened by a tragic accident in a chemical factory in Sangreddy, Telangana. The NDRF team has immediately reached the spot and continues the rescue operation with the local administration.”

Shah said, “I express my heartfelt condolences to those families who have lost their loved ones. I pray for the injured to get well soon.”

On Monday, Director General of Telangana State Disaster Response and Fire Service Y Nagi Reddy said that rescue officers are uncertain about the number of people trapped in the debris. He said that according to industrial experts, the explosion occurred during the air filling and drying the microcystline cellulose.

Nagi Reddy told reporters after visiting the accident site, “Sigachi Pharma company’s drying unit exploded at around 9.48 am today. The explosion caused a fire. A total of 12 people have died and 35 were injured in the incident.”

“According to industrial experts, this incident occurred during the air handling/drying in the air. We are not yet sure of the number of people buried under the debris,” he said.

Significantly, rescue work is still going on.
