Today is the birthday of the same Vikram Batra. Captain Vikram Batra attained martyrdom at the age of 24 while fighting the Pakistani Army during the Kargil War in 1999. He was awarded the highest bravery award of wartime ‘Paramveer Chakra’ posthumously. Due to his indomitable courage, he is fondly called ‘Tiger of Dras’, ‘Lion of Kargil’ and ‘Hero of Kargil’ etc.
Vikram Batra was posted as captain
When the Kargil war started in 1999, Captain Vikram Batra was posted as a Captain in the 13th Battalion of Jammu and Kashmir Rifles. India’s struggle in the Kargil war is known as Operation Vijay. It was fought simultaneously in the Kargil district and many other places along the LOC, only then the Indian Army won this battle. Captain Vikram Batra played an important role in winning this war.
Vikram Batra was injured by enemy bullet
On 7 July 1999, Vikram Batra’s battalion moves forward with the intention of capturing an important peak which was occupied by the Pakistani army. During this, his battalion has to face heavy firing. Vikram Batra, leading his team, successfully captures the peak. During this time, Vikram Batra is shot by the enemy army. In fact, Vikram Batra realizes that his fellow soldier Rifleman Sanjay Kumar has been shot and is seriously injured.
Saved his partner even after getting injured
Then Vikram Batra goes forward without caring about anything to help them. His companion Sanjay Kumar was stranded on an open hill. Without any hesitation, Batra decided to go back and rescue him. In dangerous conditions, he manages to reach Sanjay Kumar amidst heavy firing and successfully rescues him from there. However, during this time, while descending from the hill, Captain Batra got shot and was injured. Even after this, he kept fighting. But in the end he was martyred. Let us tell you that Vikram Batra was born on 9 September 1974 in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh. A film has also been made on his life.
