The national capital markets remained open on Wednesday despite a call for a nationwide strike on behalf of many labor organizations on 17-point demands including labor rights and social security reforms.
The Confederation of All India Traders (CAT) said the bandh had no effect on Delhi’s commercial activities.
Brijesh Goyal, chairman of the merchant organization CTI, said, “All 700 markets and 56 industrial areas of Delhi are functioning normally.”
Connaught Place, one of the busiest business centers in Delhi, was also seen to be a normal functioning.
Amit Gupta, Joint Secretary of New Delhi Merchants Association (NDTA), said, “This is a general working day for Connaught Place. The bandh has no effect here. ”The major business center Khan Market was also unaffected by the bandh.
Sanjeev Khanna, president of Khan Market Traders Association, said, “We have not participated in any bandh. The entire mine market is open as usual. ”
The joint forum of 10 central labor organizations has called for a nationwide strike or Bharat Bandh since Wednesday morning to protest against the policies of the central government.
Workers organizations are demanding to stop privatization, remove four labor laws, withdraw fixed -term employment contracts and cancel the Agneepath military recruitment scheme.
Other major demands include eight-hour working day, restoration of non-fraudulent old pension scheme and minimum Rs 9,000 monthly pension for EPFO shareholders.
