Supreme Court Allows Relaxation Of GRAP 4 In Delhi-NCR: Supreme Court Allows Relaxation Of GRAP 4 Restrictions In Delhi-NCR

New Delhi. The issue of farmers’ movement has now reached the Supreme Court. Gaurav Luthra of Punjab has filed a petition in the Supreme Court demanding orders to the Central Government, Punjab Government and Haryana Government to open the borders of all the states. It has been said in the petition that keeping the border closed is a violation of the fundamental rights of the citizens. The Supreme Court can hear this petition tomorrow.

What is the demand in the petition?

The petition filed by Gaurav Luthra has demanded opening of all other borders including Shambhu Border. It has been argued in the petition that due to the closure of the border, the right to movement of the general public is being hindered. This has been described as a violation of the fundamental rights given under Article 19 of the Constitution.

Latest situation of farmers movement

After attempting to march to Delhi on Friday, a group of 101 farmers once again attempted to march to Delhi on Sunday. However, Haryana Police fired tear gas shells and water cannons to stop them at the Punjab-Haryana border. Farmer leaders say that at least nine farmers have been injured in this action. One of these seriously injured farmers has been admitted to the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh.

Statement of Sarwan Singh Pandher

Sarwan Singh Pandher, leader of the United Kisan Morcha, said that after the strictness of the security personnel, the group of farmers has been called back for the time being. He said, “The agitation has been temporarily postponed on Sunday. Further strategy will be decided in the meeting of farmer organizations on Monday.”

How did Sunday’s protest happen?

On Sunday afternoon, the group of farmers again left for the march towards Delhi at Shambhu border. In the beginning, the security personnel welcomed the farmers by giving them water and showering flowers. But when the farmers tried to move forward, the police fired tear gas shells and used water cannons. Due to this the protesters had to retreat.

Government’s response to the situation of farmers

The government has said that it is ready to discuss the demands of the farmers, but in view of public safety, permission cannot be given to march to Delhi. A meeting of farmer organizations has been called on Monday, in which further strategy will be decided. Farmer leader Sarwan Singh said that he is ready to find a solution to their issues with the government, but the strictness of the government may further intensify the movement.

Farmers’ allegation: Government is suppressing

Farmer leaders accused the government and said that repressive methods are being used to suppress their voice. He also said that the government needs to listen to the farmers and take a decision in their favor.
