Some major changes are going to come in UPI from 1 August 2025. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has asked all banks and UPI apps (eg GPAY, PhonePe, Paytm) to limit 10 special services (API), which are most commonly used.
These services include checking balance, starting autope, and seeing the status of transactions. Meaning, now you will be able to do these works in a fixed number in the day itself. NPCI says that if a bank or UPI app does not obey these rules, it may be fined, or new customer services can be stopped. All apps also have to ensure that the automatic requests made from their system are also inside the limit.
Limit on balance check
Now from UPI, you will not be able to check more than 50 times a day. For example, if you use both GPay and PhonePe, then you can check both of them differently 50 times. NPCI has also said that if you have made a payment, then the bank should also show the balance immediately – so that you do not have to check separate balance.
New rule of autope
Through UPI, which are automatic payment (eg Netflix, SIP etc.), now they will be processed only in non-pieces hours (ie between 10 am to 1 pm and not between 5 to 9:30 pm). However, you can set the autope at any time, but its money will be deducted when the crowd is low.
New rule to check transaction status
If the status of a payment is to be checked, then the bank and the app will now have to check for the first time after 90 seconds. And this status can be checked only 3 times in 2 hours.
Limit on viewing linked accounts
If you want to check with the UPI app how many bank accounts are connected to your mobile number, then you can do this only 25 times a day and this request will be sent only when you will select the bank and you will be approved.
