A peculiar order issued by Executive Engineer of the National Highway Block Office of Public Works Department at Lohaghat in Champawat district of Uttarakhand was rapidly broadcast on social media, in which two handful rice to find the missing service book of an employee
Gods and Goddesses have been asked to offer.
In the order issued by Executive Engineer Ashutosh Kumar, all the officers and employees working in the block have been asked to bring two or two rice along with their home on Saturday to bring two or two rice with them so that he can be offered a missing service book by offering it to the deity.
The letter said that the service book book of Additional Assistant Engineer Jai Prakash working in the block is lost from the cupboard of the Electricity Assistant and is not getting despite much research, due to which both the establishment assistant and Jai Prakash have become mentally disturbed.
To resolve the problem, the Executive Engineer gave a unique suggestion that all the officers and employees bring two handful of rice from their respective homes who will be offered to the deity and this ‘divine measures’ can solve the problem of the disappearance service book.
In the letter, all officers and employees have been asked to appear in the office on Saturday with two handful of rice, which will be arranged to offer it to the temple.
As soon as the order became public, it started to be discussed a lot on social media. Some people termed it as a ‘spiritual bureaucracy’, taking a sarcasm at the government machinery, some called it an initiative related to the human feelings of an officer.
However, some social media users also wrote that this case, which expects justice from rice, also shows administrative negligence that how weak the safety and record management of documents in government offices is.
Meanwhile, the Chief Engineer of Public Works Department Rajesh Chandra has issued a notice to the Executive Engineer and sought a reply and asked him to clarify in three days. The notice states that for not doing so, action will be taken against Kumar under the Staff Conduct Rules 2002.
