The Supreme Court has given a big verdict in favor of the Tamil Nadu government led by MK Stalin. The Supreme Court said that Governor RN Ravi’s decision not to approve 10 major bills was ‘illegal’ and ‘arbitrary’. The Supreme Court, while giving the verdict, said that the Governor cannot reserve the bills for the President after not giving approval.

The governor did not work with goodwill- court

A bench of Supreme Court judges JB Pardiwala and R Mahadevan said, ‘The action of the Governor reserting 10 Bills for the President is illegal and arbitrary. All action taken by the Governor for 10 Bills is canceled. These Bills will be considered approval from the date of rebuilding before the Governor. Along with this, the court said that Governor Ravi has not worked with ‘goodwill’.

Stalin told this a big win for all states

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK chief MK Stalin has termed the court’s decision as historic. Stalin said, ‘This is not only for Tamil Nadu but for all Indian states. DMK will continue to struggle for the autonomy and federal politics of the state and win.

What else did the Supreme Court say?

The Supreme Court said that the Governor should have approved these Bills at a time when they were presented before them after being passed by the Assembly.

Governor can give his consent

In Article 200 of the Constitution, options are prescribed before the Governor, when the Bill passed by the State House is presented to the Governor. The governors can give their consent, prevent consent or keep the bill safe for the President’s view.

Governor can protect a bill

The Governor can send the Bill back to the House or Houses to reconsider some provisions. If the House passes it again, the Governor will not stop consent. According to the Constitution, the Governor can preserve a bill for the idea of the President, which he feels that the Constitution is contrary to the directors principles of the state policy or a matter of national importance.

What is the dispute between CM and Governor?

Let us know that there has been a long tension between the government -led government in Tamil Nadu between Governor RN Ravi and Chief Minister MK Stalin, which focuses on many issues. Especially about delay or rejection in approval of the bills. This dispute has become an example of the conflict of powers between the state government and the governor in the federal structure of India.
