More than 65 lakh calculations were not included in the draft voter list prepared by the Election Commission in the Election State Bihar, which reduced the total number of registered voters to about 7.9 crores to 7.24 crore.
According to the Election Commission, the maximum number of 3.95 lakh non-shelter calculation forms were submitted in Patna, followed by 3.52 lakhs in Madhubani, 3.16 lakh in East Champaran and 3.10 lakh in Gopalganj.
Before the commencement of SIR, the number of voters registered in the state was stated to be around 7.9 crore. However, the Election Commission claimed that since then ‘22.34 lakh people ‘people have died, 36.28 lakh people have’ permanently gone out of the state ‘or’ not found ‘on their stated addresses, and 7.01 lakh people have been found registered on’ one more than one place ‘.
The draft voter list has been made available online and their printouts are being provided to representatives of political parties in all 38 districts of the state for the phase of claims and objections.
This phase will continue till 1 September and after that the final voter list will be published.
Opposition parties like Congress and RJD in the state capital have expressed dissatisfaction over the details shared in the draft voter list. These parties are alleging that the purpose of this exercise is to help the ruling NDA in the assembly elections.
