Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat said during a function in Indore on Monday that the date of Ram Lalla’s death in Ayodhya should be celebrated as ‘Pratishtha Dwadashi’, because the country which has faced enemy attacks for many centuries. True independence was established on this day.
This statement of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat came while presenting ‘Rashtriya Devi Ahilya Award’ to Champat Rai, General Secretary of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust in Indore. “This day has become a symbol of the reconstruction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya and the restoration of Indian culture,” he said. Bhagwat said that the country got political independence from British rule on August 15, 1947, but the direction of that independence and its real objective were not clear at the time of the formation of the Constitution. He also said that deities like Lord Ram, Krishna and Shiva represent Indian values of life, are part of the country’s ‘swa’ (independence), and it is not limited to only those who worship them. .
Bhagwat said that the invaders had destroyed the country’s temples so that India’s “self” would die. Bhagwat said the Ram Mandir movement was not started to oppose any individual or create controversy. The Sangh chief said that this movement was started to awaken India’s ‘self’, so that the country can stand on its own feet and show the way to the world. He said that this movement lasted so long because some powers wanted that the temple of Lord Ram should not be built on his birthplace in Ayodhya.

Mohan Bhagwat said that during the consecration of Ram Lalla in Ayodhya last year, there was no discord or quarrel in the country and people witnessed the moment of consecration with a “pure mind”. The Sangh chief also mentioned his meeting with the then President Pranab Mukherjee at a time when the issue of ghar wapsi (return of converts to their original religion) was a heated issue in Parliament. He said, “During this meeting, Mukherjee told me that the Constitution of India is the most secular constitution in the world and in such a situation what right does the world have to teach us secularism. He also told me that 5,000 years of Indian tradition has taught us only secularism.

According to Bhagwat, the 5,000-year-old Indian tradition that Mukherjee was referring to during his meeting started with Ram, Krishna and Shiva. He also said that during the Ram Mandir movement in the 1980s, some people used to ask him “by rote” questions as to why the issue of the temple was being raised leaving aside the concern for the livelihood of the people? Bhagwat said, “I used to ask them that after independence in 1947, despite talking about socialism, raising slogans of eradicating poverty and worrying about the livelihood of the people all the time, India was not doing well in the 1980s.
