A counselor psychiatrist has claimed that the victim of rape and murder in RG tax hospital was under severe mental stress and sought professional help from him about a month before his death on 9 August last year.
Psychiatrist Mohit Randeep claimed on Monday that a 30 -year -old doctor was having extreme mental problems due to prolonged duty, discrimination in allocation of shifts and “information about irregularities” in government hospitals.
Talking to a major Bengali TV channel, the mental health expert said that he is ready to testify before the CBI, who had investigated the rape case.
Randeep said, “He had told me about 36 hours of continuous duty, discrimination in the allocation of shifts in rosters and serious mental pressure on it, as he had seen many irregularities in the purchase of drugs and medical equipment. I asked him if everyone was given the same shift, he gave a negative reply.”
The psychiatrist said that he had given some advice to the post-graduate trainee (PGT) and was to return for follow-up counseling. Randeep said, “However, this could not happen.”
A section of the woman’s parents and her colleagues had earlier claimed that she was being harassed by the hospital to point to some irregularities in the purchase of drugs and equipment, which she came to know in her duty time.
Government RG at the time of crime Dr. Sandeep Ghosh, Principal of Tax Medical College and Hospital, was arrested in connection with alleged financial irregularities at the medical establishment.
Many leaders of the ruling Trinamool Congress had repeatedly emphasized that the party wants a comprehensive investigation from the central agency CBI.
However, the party also alleged that the left and some groups are making false accusations against the ruling establishment to defame the state government and healthcare doctors.
The Calcutta High Court on Monday directed the CBI to present a case diary related to its investigation on the next hearing of the rape case. The court asked whether the central agency was considering the possibility of gang rape or destroying evidence in its investigation.
The body of the doctor was found on 9 August 2024 in the seminar room of the Government Hospital in North Kolkata.
Kolkata Police arrested former civilian volunteer Sanjay Roy on charges of rape and murder. Following the High Court order, the CBI, who took the investigation into the case, also made Roy the only accused.
In January, the trial court sentenced him to life imprisonment throughout his life.
