There is a new twist in the case of Kerala’s nurse Nimisha Priya case. On Monday, July 28, India’s Grand Mufti Kanthapuram A.P. The office of Abubkari Musaliar claimed that there has been a big progress in the efforts being made to save Kerala nurse Nimisha Priya from hanging in Yemen.
A statement issued by the Grand Mufti’s office said that some important decisions have been taken after a high level of talks. It also states that it has been agreed to cancel Nimisha’s death sentence. But the officials also said that further talks are needed before the final decision comes.
The situation of Nimisha is still uncertain
Nimisha Priya has been facing hanging punishment in Yemen since 2020. He was proved to be a blame for the murder of Talal Abdo Mahdi, a Yemeni citizen. Although the statement of Grand Mufti’s office is showing a ray of hope, the deceased’s brother Abdul Fattah Mahdi has rejected these claims outright.
Abdul Fattah wrote on Facebook that she has not forgiven Nimisha and she denied these conversations. He said that according to Islamic law, there is no place for mercy in cases of murder and he also criticized that the people who did not come directly in touch with the family.
He asked, “Which Yemeni organization did he talk to?” At the same time, he also shared the cutting of some news published in Malayalam, so that he could strengthen his point.
Efforts continue at religious and diplomatic level
It is said that this progress was seen when a team of Yamani scholars attended the conversation at the behest of Grand Mufti. The team also had some Northern Yemen officials and members of the international diplomatic community. However, there has been no official comment from India’s Foreign Ministry or the Central Government in this matter.
Daughter’s emotional appeal
An emotional turn in the case came when Nimisha Priya’s 13 -year -old daughter Michel arrived on Yemen on Monday with her father Tommy Thomas and the founder of Global Peace Initiative Dr. KA Paul. Michelle, who had not met her mother for the last 10 years, made an emotional appeal in Malayalam and English, “I love my mother very much. I miss her a lot. Please help bring my mother back.” Earlier this month, the hanging of Nimisha was imposed on a temporary ban. Now the conversation is going on so that the victim’s family can get a formal apology.
