Passengers are facing delays of flights at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in Delhi. Airport operator Dial (Delhi International Airport Limited) has informed that this situation remains due to changes in wind direction and upgrade of a runway.
New arrangements of ATC came into force from 8:30 pm
Dial said on its X (East Twitter) account that flight management measures have been implemented by Air Traffic Control (ATC) from 8:30 pm to 12:30 pm the next day. The aim of these measures is to ensure the safety of passengers and flights can be better controlled.
Repair of runway and delay of wind direction
In recent times, the position of runway usage has changed due to winds from the eastern direction. Along with this, maintenance work is going on at the runway RW 10/28, causing problems in timely operations of flights.
Delay in over 400 flights
According to flightradar24.com, more than 400 flights were delayed on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Civil Aviation Minister K.K. Rammohan Naidu has assured that the ministry is keeping a close watch on the situation and instructions have been issued for a better plan.
Temporarily closed runway RW 10/28
Dial reported that the runway RW 10/28, which is 3,800 meters long, was closed for some time due to maintenance. However, it has now been temporarily suspended and is expected to resume in early May.
