A case of kidnapping of a married woman from Tentuligaon of Jharigaon block of Nabarangpur district of Odisha has come to light, taking her to Maharashtra and physically and mentally exploiting her there. It is alleged that the woman was forced to have relations with many people. The woman was kept captive in the house for 14 days.
Vasudev Kalar, a man from the same village, forcefully kidnapped the woman. First the woman was taken to Raipur, then to Gangapur village, about 170 km from Nagpur in Maharashtra. There, she was locked in a house and forced to have physical relations and suffer mental abuse.
Called her husband and told her the whole incident.
The woman was kept confined in the house, but he discovered from a conversation overheard through the window that preparations were being made to sell her. Hearing this, the woman somehow climbed the wall behind the house and reached a dhaba on the national highway, 5 kilometers away. There she called her husband and informed him about the entire incident.
Case of kidnapping and rape registered
The woman’s husband immediately contacted Kadambini Tripathi, president of Matrashray Ashram. A team of four people led by Kadambini reached Maharashtra with the help of police and got the woman released. After release, the woman lodged a complaint with the police. She filed a case of kidnapping and rape against the accused Vasudev Kalar.
Demand to stop women trafficking racket
Regarding the matter, President of Matrashray Ashram, Kadambini Tripathi has demanded immediate arrest of the accused and strict steps to be taken to stop the women trafficking racket active behind this incident. The woman’s ordeal has once again raised questions about the safety of women and the increasing threat of trafficking in the society. (Report- Shubham Kumar)
