Former US President Jimmy Carter died on Sunday at the age of 100. The Carter Center and American media outlets have announced his death. Let us tell you that Jimmy Carter was the 39th President of America. He held this post from 1977 to 1981. He also received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. Jimmy Carter also has a special relationship with India. You will be surprised to know that in honor of Jimmy Carter, a village in India has been named after him. The name of this village is – ‘Carterpuri’. Let us know some special things about this village.

History of Carterpuri Village

Jimmy Carter was the third US President to visit India. He was considered a friend of India. He visited India in the year 1978 after the lifting of Emergency in India and the victory of Janata Party. On January 3, 1978, Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn Carter went to Daulatpur Nasirabad village near New Delhi. The journey was so successful that after some time the residents of the village renamed the area ‘Carterpuri’.

Celebration celebrated in Carterpuri in honor of Nobel

According to the Carter Center, Jimmy Carter’s mother, Lillian, also worked there as a health volunteer with the Peace Corps in the late 1960s. When Jimmy Carter received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002, there was a celebration in Carterpuri village. Along with this, there is a holiday in Carterpuri on 3rd January. This visit of Jimmy Carter laid the foundation of a lasting partnership between India and America, which greatly benefited both the countries.

Carter gave a message for India

Jimmy Carter gave a big message during his visit to India. He had said – “India’s difficulties, which we often experience ourselves and which developing countries especially have to face, remind us of the responsibilities of the future. Not of the authoritarian way.” Carter said, “Is democracy important? Do all people value human freedom? India has answered with a resounding ‘yes’ and this voice has been heard all over the world.” (Input: Language)
