Dnyanesh Kumar, Chief Election Commissioner
New Delhi: The Election Commission has launched a new initiative with the aim of making the voter information slip (voter information slip) more accurate and reliable as well as to make the voting process easier. It mainly emphasizes three points. The first is to obtain the death registration statistics, the second-BLO is to issue a standard identity card electronically and the third is to make the voter list more accurate and convenient for voters.
Suggestions received at the conference of Chief Electoral Officers
This change is based on the reforms suggested at the conference of Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) held in March this year in the presence of Chief Election Commissioner of the country, Election Commissioner Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi.
Data of death registration will be linked to the election database
Under the first change, the data of death registration will now be connected electronically to the election database. With this, the information of death registration from the Registrar General of India will get the voter registration officer (ERO) directly. This process will be done according to Rule 9 of the “Registration Rules of Election, 1960” and Section 3 (5) (B) (2023) of “Birth and Death Registration Act, 1969”. With this, the booth level officer (BLO) will also be able to verify the information through field visit without waiting for a formal request under Form 7.

Voter information slip will be made more clear
Voter information slip will be made more accurate, useful and clear under the second change. For this, the Election Commission has decided to change the design of voter information slip. The voter information slip will now be displayed in big letters prominently. The size of the font will be increased, which will make it easier for voters to identify their polling station and it will be easy for the authorities to find a name in the list.

BLO will get identity card
Under the third change, the Commission has directed that under Section 13B (2) of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, all BLOs appointed by the ERO will be given a standard photo identity card. This will make it easier for BLO to go door-to-door to meet voters. During the voter verification and registration campaign, people can identify BLOs and interact with them confidently.
