New Delhi. During the Mahakumbh Mela, a huge crowd caused a stampede at Sangam Nose late Wednesday, in which 30 devotees died tragically, while more than 90 people were injured. Despite the quick action of the administration, the accident could not be averted. The Chief Minister has constituted a three -member commission, ordering a judicial inquiry into the incident, which will be chaired by former Judge Harsh Kumar. Former DG V.K. Gupta and retired IAS D.K. Singh has also been included.
Chief Minister expressed deep condolences, compensation of 25 lakh lakhs to the families of the deceased
The Chief Minister expressed deep grief over the incident and said, “The administration had held several rounds of review meetings, yet how did this accident happen?” It will be intensively investigated. ” He announced a assistance of ₹ 25-25 lakh to the families of the deceased. Also, he has directed the Chief Secretary and DGP to visit the spot on Thursday and submit a detailed investigation report.

A large crowd gathered on the Akhara road between 1 to 2 pm on Wednesday night. The barricades broke due to mob pressure, causing people to go uncontrollably to the other side. In Brahma Muhurta, people climbed on the devotees waiting for the Sangam bath, causing a stampede. The administration immediately started relief and rescue operations and sent the injured to the hospital. 30 devotees have died, while 36 injured are being treated at the medical college.

Congress MLA from Belagavi North of Karnataka, Asif Sait confirmed that four people from Belagavi city had died. The dead include BJP worker Jyoti Hattarwar (50) and his daughter Megha Hattarwar (16).

The strictness of the administration was no VIP movement
DIG Vaibhav Krishna clarified that on January 29, the administration had issued strict instructions that there would be no VIP movement. He appealed to the media for cooperation and said that the primary objective of the administration is to take the devotees to their home safely.

The administration has released the helpline number 1920 for the convenience of devotees. Information about missing people can be obtained from this. The Chief Minister negotiated with Mahamandaleshwar, saints and akhadas and requested to delay the Amrit bath, which the saints accepted and the bath was concluded safely.
