Waqf Amendment Bill: Waqf Bill has been introduced in Lok Sabha. During the discussion on the bill in the House, there is a strong debate between the opposition and the leaders of the government. As soon as the bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha, the opposition started raising objections, on which Home Minister Amit Shah got up and said that the Congress’s communities used to be tamped. Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, while presenting the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025 in the Lok Sabha, said that the previous UPA government had put it above other laws through changes in the Waqf Act, so it required new amendments.

‘No interference in religious institution’

Kiran Rijiju targeted the opposition parties in the House and said that you tried to mislead people on issues that are not part of the Waqf Bill. The minister tried to address the concerns being raised by the opposition parties regarding the bill and said that the government is not going to intervene in any religious institution.

TMC MP protested

Speaking about the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025, TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee said that the government is taking wrong steps by bringing this bill. This is not good for the minority community. The government should withdraw this bill. TMC strongly opposed the Waqf Amendment Bill. Banerjee said that Waqf’s assets are backbones for Muslims. Changes through the Waqf Amendment Bill are a matter of serious concern about Islamic traditions and culture. He said that it is an attempt to snatch the rights of Muslims which is unconstitutional.

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025 is expected to be discussed in the Lok Sabha for 8 hours. This bill has been strongly opposed by the opposition. Opposition parties say the bill is an attack on the rights of minorities, while the government claims that it will improve Waqf properties.

NDA has a majority in Lok Sabha

NDA allies such as JDU, TDP and Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) have also announced the support of the government. On the other hand, the opposition coalition ‘India’ is ready to strongly oppose this bill. Congress, Samajwadi Party, TMC and other opposition parties have called it an attack against the constitution and the rights of minorities. The position of NDA is strong in the Lok Sabha according to the number, which has 293 MPs, while 272 votes are needed to pass the bill.
