PM Modi’s Saudi tour amid controversy over Waqf law
Let us know that PM Modi is going on a tour of Saudi Arabia when there is a lot of controversy about the Waqf Amendment Act in India. Along with the Muslim leadership of India, the opposition is also angry with this. Protests are taking place against it in many states. A variety of changes have been made in the 1995 Waqf Act. Now the role of the central government has increased in Waqf’s properties. The central government can now order the CAG or any other officer to investigate the Waqf accounts and the most concern is being expressed that by reducing the strength of the Waqf Board, the DM of the district has given the right to whether the disputed land is of Waqf or not.
Will there be a discussion on change in Waqf Board dispute and law?
India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri held a press conference on April 19 for PM Modi’s visit to Saudi Arabia, in which Bloomberg asked Misri’s question- Do you expect Prime Minister Modi and Saudi Crown Prince to discuss the Waqf Board dispute and change in law in India? In response to this, Vikram Misri had said, “I have not seen that the official form or any government department has raised the issue from Saudi Arabia.” I am not very confident about why this issue will come in the conversation of both? ”
It is true that Saudi Arabia has not publicly said anything about the ongoing dispute over the Waqf Amendment Act in India.
Can this be a big deal?
In this visit of PM Modi, many agreements (MOU) can be signed between the two countries. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that the agreements are in the final approval and complete information will be shared during the journey. He said that defense exercises have been done between the armies of the two countries recently. There has also been talks at the staff level. This shows that relationships are getting stronger in the field of defense.
He said, “India is becoming an important supplier of defense material to Saudi Arabia. Last year, the Kingdom had a special agreement on the export of ammunition worth about $ 225 million. ”This means that India will now also sell arms and defense goods to Saudi Arabia.
