Guwahati: Bhutan is going to get its first rail link soon. Indian Railways has completed a detailed project report (DPR) for laying the railway line from Kokrajhar to Bhutan in Assam. A spokesman for the North Eastern Frontier Railway (NFR) gave this information on Saturday. The spokesman said that the final place survey for the proposed railway line has already been completed, now the approval of DPR is awaited.
Plan to connect Kokrajhar to Galefu, Bhutan
The spokesman said that the proposed 69.04 km railway line will connect Kokrajhar station of Assam to Galefu in Bhutan and its estimated cost will be Rs 3,500 crore. The project includes the development of six new stations – Balajan, Garubhasa, Runikhata, Shantipur, Dadgiri and Gelefu.
There will be 29 big bridges, 65 small bridges
The infrastructure scheme consists of two important bridges, 29 large bridges, 65 small bridges, one ‘road over-bridge’, 39 ‘road under-bridge’ and two bridges of 11 meter length. The spokesman said, “The final place survey has been successfully completed and DPR has been submitted for further approval and necessary instructions.”
Business, tourism will get a boost
“The proposed railway line will significantly strengthen India-Bhutan relations by increasing trade, tourism and cultural exchange between the two countries,” he said. This will also improve the contact and Bhutan will get its first railway link and will get the facility of uninterrupted transport. ”The spokesman said that the proposed railway line is in line with the Prime Minister’s ‘Act East Policy’ and ‘Neighbors first’.
