The United Nations Security Council’s ban monitoring team said that the ‘The Resistance Front’ (TRF) had taken responsibility for the Pahalgam terrorist attack twice and “a picture of the scene was published.”
The United Nations party also said in its report that the attack was not possible without the support of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LET).
The 36th report of analytical support and ban monitoring party on the Islamic State, Al-Qaeda and their individuals and organizations mentions a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on 22 April. 26 civilians were killed in this attack.
The report said, “Five terrorists attacked a tourist destination in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.”
It said, “TRF took responsibility for this attack on the same day and also published a picture of the scene.”
The report has been submitted to the United Nations Security Council’s 1267 ISIL (DAIS) and the Al-Qaeda Ban Committee. It said that TRF took responsibility for this attack again the next day as well but on 26 April, TRF withdrew its claim. After this, no other statement came from TRF nor any other group took responsibility.
The report quoted a member country as saying, “The attack was not possible without the support of Lashkar-e-Taiba in Pakistan and there are relations between TRF and Lashkar.” Another member country said that the attack was done by TRF which is another name for Lashkar.
However, another member country “dismissed” these claims said that Lashkar-e-Taiba has now become “passive”.
The report also said that regional relations are still fragile and “It is feared that terrorist organizations may take advantage of these regional tensions.”
The US has listed TRF as a foreign terrorist organization and a particularly nominated global terrorist this month.
On April 25, after the Pahalgam attack, the United Nations Security Council issued a statement saying that it is necessary to bring criminals, conspirators, financing and sponsors to the dock of justice. However, the name of the TRF was not included in that statement under the pressure of Pakistan.
Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar said in Parliament on Monday that during the discussion on the statement in the Security Council, Pakistan had tried to remove any kind of mention in the name of TRF.
India ran ‘Operation Sindoor’ in response to the Pahalgam attack in Pakistan and Pakistan -occupied Kashmir, targeting terrorist structures.
The United Nations report also states that the Islamic State-Khurasan still remains the biggest threat to Central and South Asia and globally.
