The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Friday condemned the ‘derogatory and derogatory’ language used by senior party leader Anubrata Mandal during a phone conversation with a police officer and demanded that the former Birbhum district president should apologize unconditionally within four hours.
The party warned that disciplinary action will be taken including reasons for not complying. An audio clip with the alleged sound of Mandal went viral in the first day. In the clip, the domineering leader of Birbhum can be heard allegedly threatening the officer (IC) of a police station in Birbhum district on the phone. PTI could not independently confirm the authenticity of the clip.
The XMC said, “The party clearly distinguishes itself from the remarks made by Mandal against the police officer. We strongly condemn the use of derogatory and unacceptable derogatory language by them. The party instructs him to apologize unconditionally within the next four hours, not to do so will initiate the reason against TMC.”
Earlier in the day, BJP’s West Bengal President and Union Minister Sukant Majumdar shared the audio clip on his X handle and demanded Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and DGP Rajiv Kumar to conduct a quick inquiry into the matter. Mazumdar said, “Once someone listens to this conversation, it will be clear how the notorious criminals are being given shelter by the invincible, the big Chief Minister.”
In another post, Leader of Opposition in the state assembly Suvendu Adhikari alleged that Mandal used derogatory words about women threatening the IC. In the alleged audio clip, the Divisional Police Officer is being heard by accusing him of taking favor of his party’s rival Kajal Sheikh and threatening him to “teach a lesson”.
