The Ministry of External Affairs on Saturday welcomed the summit held in Alaska between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, which was aimed at ending the ongoing Ukraine-Russia war.
According to a statement by the official spokesperson of the ministry, India appreciates the progress made at this summit. The statement said that the path ahead is possible only through dialogue and diplomacy. The world community wants to see the struggle in Ukraine ending as soon as possible.
Trump and Putin held their first face-to-face meeting after several years to resolve the Ukraine War in Alaska on Friday. This dialogue did not get any significant success for Ukraine, but the two leaders said that the discussions were positive.
“Our meeting was extremely positive, and many points agreed.” He added, “There are only a few issues left, some of which are not more important, but one probably the most important.”
Trump later said that he would urge Ukraine President Volodimir Jailonsky to agree to a peace agreement, emphasizing that Ukraine needs to take steps towards peace. He termed his conversation with Putin as “10 out of 10”, as well as some minor differences.
