New Delhi: The discussion on the Constitution will begin for two days from today amid uproar by the opposition in Parliament. On completion of 75 years of the Constitution in the country, the discussion will start from the Lok Sabha. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will initiate the discussion while Prime Minister Narendra Modi will respond to the two-day debate on Saturday. A similar discussion is likely to be initiated in the Rajya Sabha by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Discussion will start at 12 o’clock
According to the information, the proceedings of Lok Sabha will start from 11 am today. There will be a question hour from 11 to 12 noon, after which the discussion on the journey of 75 years of the Constitution will start from 12 noon. This discussion will be initiated by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. Ravi Shankar Prasad can also participate in it. 12 to 15 leaders from BJP will participate in this discussion.
Rahul and Priyanka will also speak
According to the information, Congress will get 2 hours 20 minutes time for debate on Constitution Day. The Parliamentary Strategic Group of Congress also held talks regarding the winter session of Parliament and discussion on the Constitution. Senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra both will speak in the House. According to sources, Rahul Gandhi can speak in the discussion today itself while Priyanka Gandhi can participate in the discussion tomorrow. This will be Priyanka’s first speech. Congress has issued a three-line whip in the House for both the days and has asked its MPs to be present in the House on both the days. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge will initiate the debate on behalf of the opposition in Rajya Sabha.
PM Modi held a meeting
Before the two-day discussion, Prime Minister Modi held a meeting to formulate strategy, in which apart from Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh, BJP President JP Nadda also participated. Earlier, Amit Shah held a meeting with senior BJP ministers including J Nadda, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju at his office in Parliament House.
Winter session will end on December 20
The government has agreed to discuss the Constitution in the Lok Sabha on 13 and 14 December and in the Rajya Sabha on 16 and 17 December. During the winter session of Parliament, opposition parties had demanded a discussion in both the Houses on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution by the Constituent Assembly. The deadlock in Parliament was broken after an agreement was reached between the ruling party and the opposition. The winter session of Parliament will probably end on December 20.
