Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday amid a controversy over the implementation of Hindi in primary schools.
The meeting lasted for about 20 minutes in the office of the Legislative Council Chairman Ram Shinde. Earlier, the Shiv Sena chief clarified that his party was not against the Hindi language, but he accused some groups of comparing Marathi people to terrorists and weakening the Marathi identity.
The meeting took place a day after the Chief Minister of Maharashtra took a sarcasm at Uddhav Thackeray, in which he invited him to join the Legislative Council and said that his government had no “scope” to come to opposition by 2029.
Fadnavis was speaking to the Maharashtra Legislative Council on the occasion of Uddhav Thackeray’s farewell. Fadnavis said, “There is no scope for us to come there (opposition) at least by 2029. Uddhav ji can think of the scope of this side (ruling party) and can be thought about it in a different way, but there is not a lot of conflict for us (opposition).”
On 5 July, Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) organized a joint rally called ‘Awaaz Marathicha’ at Worli Dome in Mumbai. For the first time in this program, Uddhav and Raj Thackeray shared a platform. The rally was organized by the Government of Maharashtra after the cancellation of two government proposals (GRS) to implement Hindi as the third compulsory language.
The orders now withdrawn related to the implementation of three-language formulas in state schools started widespread protests by Shiv Sena (UBT), MNS and Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction). ,
