Uddhav Thackeray’s son Aditya Thackeray gave an update about his father’s health on his social media account. Aditya wrote, ‘This morning, Uddhav Thackeray ji was given a pre-planned detailed examination at Sir HN Reliance Hospital. Due to your good wishes all is well and he is fully ready to work and serve the people. Uddhav Thackeray has already undergone angioplasty twice. First of all, Uddhav Thackeray had angioplasty for the first time on 20 July 2012. After this, his angioplasty was done again in November 2012 the same year.
What is angiography and angioplasty?
Through angioplasty, blockage in the veins of a person’s heart is removed. In this, a camera is passed to the heart through a thin wire through a vein in the leg or arm that goes directly to the heart. The camera is connected to the monitor kept in the operation theatre. It shows where and how much blockage is there in the vein. This process of investigation is called angiography. After this, a stent is placed at the place where there is blockage in the vein, which swells at the place of blockage, due to which the vein gets slightly widened and blood flow starts. This entire process of inserting a stent is called angioplasty.
