Union Minister Kishan Reddy said on Friday that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is a “100% patriotic organization” working for the benefit of the country and described it as the largest non-political organization in the world.
Talking to ANI, Reddy said, “People say anything, RSS is a 100 percent patriotic organization working for the benefit of the country. It is the largest non-political organization in the world. 140 million people of India know what RSS means.”
Taking a sarcasm at the Congress, Reddy also said that the RSS does not need recognition from the Congress or any other political party. “On mentioning the RSS in the Independence Day speech by Prime Minister Modi, the Union Minister said that it is a committed organization that works for the welfare of India. It does not require a certificate from Congress or any other party.”
Meanwhile, on Friday, opposition leaders attacked Prime Minister Modi’s comment during the Independence Day speech in which he appreciated the RSS for completing 100 years of service to the nation, described it as a “world’s largest NGO” and praised its centuries -old contribution to nation building.
Congress MP Jairam Ramesh called Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day speech “stale, hypocritical, monotonous and disturbing”. He claimed that the Prime Minister in his address mentioned the RSS to please the organization, and argued that Modi is now “completely dependent on his mercy and is dependent on Mohan Bhagwat’s blessings to expand his tenure” when he would be 75 years old.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, criticizing the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) -led Sangh Parivar, accused him of being “indigenous, but heart -to -foreigners”.
Akhilesh Yadav told reporters here, “When the first session of the Bharatiya Janata Party was held, he had decided that he would adopt secular and socialist path. But the path of the Sangh Parivar is not secular and socialist. It is indigenous but foreigner is foreigner.”
RJD leader Manoj Jha criticized Prime Minister Modi’s Independence Day address and said that it was “disappointing” every time and asked if it was an election speech rather than a national address. He said that discussion with the Red Fort on the role of RSS in India’s freedom struggle would have been more suitable.
