Union ministers paid tribute to Vinayak Damodar Savarkar on his birth anniversary on Wednesday. Foreign Minister S. Meanwhile, Union Ministers Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Prahlad Joshi and JP Nadda also paid tribute to Veer Savarkar on his birth anniversary. “On the birth anniversary of Veer Savarkar, we remember him as a fearless patriot, visionary thinker and revolutionary. His unwavering commitment and his adventurous views still inspire those who stand for justice, courage and valor. Center Minister JP Nadda said that Veer Savarkar was a strong deaf of India’s independence and national renovation.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Veer Savarkar and called him “true son of Bharat Mata”.
Appreciating the contribution of Veer Savarkar in India’s freedom struggle, Prime Minister Modi said that the nation will never forget his indomitable courage and struggle. He said that Savarkar’s renunciation and dedication for the country would continue to guide the creation of a developed India. “Regards to the true son of Bharat Mata, Veer Savarkar on his birth anniversary. The harsh torture of the foreign government could not deepen his devotion to India.”
Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, known as Veer Savarkar, was born on May 28, 1883 in Nashik. Savarkar was a freedom fighter, politician, lawyer and writer and was known for creating the word ‘Hindutva’. Savarkar was also a leading person of the ‘Hindu Mahasabha’. Savarkar started participating in the freedom movement when he was a high school student and he continued this while studying at Ferguson College Pune.
He was greatly influenced by nationalist leader Lokmanya Tilak. He was active with groups like India House and Free India Society while studying law in the United Kingdom.
He also published books in which revolutionary methods were promoted to achieve complete Indian independence. British colonial authorities declared one of his works ‘The Indian War of Independence’ illegal, which was about the ‘constable revolt’ or first freedom struggle of 1857.
