Foreign Minister S Jaishankar
At the ‘Resina Dialogue’ held in New Delhi, India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar took a dig at the UN (UN) double attitude on the issue of Kashmir. He said that the UN has launched a huge omission in its role on the Kashmir issue and the attitude of Western countries on Kashmir has not been good. S Jaishankar said that India has experienced the world’s longest illegal occupation in Kashmir after World War II.
He said that the state of Jammu and Kashmir, including Gilgit and Baltistan, had decided to join India in 1947, but Pakistan unilaterally attacked and illegally captured some parts of the region and the situation is still the same today.
Name of these countries
Taking a sarcasm at the United Nations stance on Kashmir, the Foreign Minister said, “The attack on Kashmir was turned into a dispute and put the attacker (Pakistan) and the victim (India) at the same level.” He said that this injustice was done by countries like UK, Canada, Belgium, Australia and America. He said that there is a need for serious reconsideration in this subject.
“Fairness is necessary for the United Nations”
He said, “We need a system, it should be fairness. We need a strong United Nations, but fairness is necessary for a strong United Nations. A strong global system should have some basic standards stability and should be ensured that no country can challenge international orders.”
“Military rule in Myanmar is not acceptable, but …”
Giving examples, Jaishankar said that India’s eastern neighboring Myanmar has military rule, which is not acceptable in his eyes. However, he referred to the western neighboring countries, saying “he seems right.”
