Uproar in Uttarkashi
The crowd went out of control in the public protest rally organized by Hindu organizations for the removal of the mosque in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. The crowd broke the police barricade. Stones were also pelted at the police. While controlling the crowd involved in the protest, a heated clash broke out between the police and the protesters. After this, the police dispersed the crowd by lathicharge on the protesters. Today, security has been tightened in Uttarkashi regarding Friday prayers.
Hindu organizations took out a public protest rally
The police lathicharged the protest by Hindu organizations in Uttarkashi, Devbhoomi, Uttarakhand. On Thursday, Hindu organizations had taken out a march demanding the removal of the mosque. The protesters became furious during the public anger rally.
Protestors reached the police barricade
The people involved in the public anger rally were the first to reach near the police barricade while raising slogans on the streets of Uttarkashi. Police had installed barriers at three places to stop the rally. Heavy police force was deployed along with barriers at Bhatwadi Road and Bhairav Chowk including the single intersection, but the situation went out of control during the protest till evening.
7-8 police personnel injured
While controlling the crowd, a heated clash broke out between the police and the protesters. It is alleged that the protesters, intent on breaking the barricades, pelted stones at the police. 7-8 policemen were injured in this. After this the police resorted to lathi charge to disperse the crowd.
Protestors demanding removal of mosque
Half a dozen protesters were also badly injured in the police lathicharge. Tension has increased further in Uttarkashi city after the police lathi charge. In view of this, police forces have been deployed at various places. The protesters demanding removal of the mosque allege that the administration is also in collusion with the builders of the mosque.
The market remained completely closed
The market remained completely closed since Thursday morning due to the mosque dispute in Uttarkashi. Due to the public anger rally of the Hindu organization, the vehicles of Chardham Yatra had already been diverted from Badethi Manera Tekhala Bypass. Apart from Uttarkashi, Dunda market was also kept closed on the call of Hindu organization. Amidst the protests, even tea and water were not available to the pilgrims.
Security tightened for Friday prayers
Today the protesting Hindu organizations have also demanded from the administration to ban Friday prayers in the mosque. In view of the tense situation, additional police force has been deployed in the entire Uttarkashi city as a precautionary measure. The administration claims that the situation is now normal after Thursday’s protest. Along with maintaining law and order, the administration has appealed to the people not to pay attention to rumours.
