Dehradun. In the Uttarakhand municipal elections, BJP has hoisted the highest flag of victory on the post of Mayor. BJP mayors have been elected in 10 out of 11 municipal corporations. In a municipal corporation, an independent mayor has been elected by the public. Here, Congress’s victory was completely wiped out in the mayor elections. BJP’s Saurabh Thapliyal has been elected to the post of Mayor of Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand. Saurabh Thapliyal defeated Congress candidate Virendra Pokhriyal. Saurabh defeated the Congress candidate by more than 1 lakh votes. Not a single person from Congress has been able to become mayor in any municipal corporation.

Talking about the post of mayor of other municipal corporations, BJP’s Ajay Verma has won from Almora. Whereas in Haldwani, BJP’s Giriraj Singh Bisht was elected mayor. BJP’s Kiran Jaiswal was elected mayor by the public in Haridwar Municipal Corporation. BJP’s Shambhu Paswan won the post of Mayor in Rishikesh Municipal Corporation. BJP’s Kalpana Devlal won the mayor seat of Pithoragarh Municipal Corporation. Whereas, Anita Devi Agarwal of BJP won in Rudrapur Municipal Corporation, Shailendra Rawat of BJP won in Kotdwar and Deepak Bali of BJP won the post of Mayor of Kashipur Municipal Corporation. Only the post of Mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation was held by independent Aarti Bhandari.

There were 72 candidates in the fray for the post of Mayor of Municipal Corporation in Uttarakhand. At the same time, maximum 445 candidates tried their luck for the post of Municipal Council President and 4888 candidates tried their luck for the post of Municipal Corporation Councilor. The people of Uttarakhand had voted for a total of 100 urban bodies on January 23. After the counting of votes, BJP has once again proved its right to rule the hearts of the people. Let us tell you that BJP had formed the government in Uttarakhand for the second consecutive time in 2022. The people of Uttarakhand seem to be continuously expressing their support to the leadership of CM Pushkar Singh Dhami.
