Dissatisfied with a Kolkata court’s decision to sentence the key accused in the RG Kar Hospital rape and murder case to life imprisonment till death, doctors in West Bengal on Monday said they will move the High Court and seek trial of other persons involved in the case. Will continue to protest until punished.
Both senior and junior doctors have staged protests several times since the crime took place on August 9. He questioned why the case was not classified as “rarest of the rare” category when a woman doctor on duty in a government hospital was raped and murdered.
Senior doctor Dr Rajeev Pandey said, “This is an institutional crime and cannot be committed by a single person. More than one person was involved in this. We cannot accept the sentence awarded and the compensation given to the family of the deceased. This is very unsatisfactory and unacceptable.”
Pandey said they will discuss with the parents of the deceased doctor and decide the next step, which may include moving the High Court.
Sanjay Roy, who was convicted in the case of rape and murder of a female doctor at the Government RG Kar Medical College Hospital in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, in August last year, was sentenced to imprisonment till death by the Sealdah court on Monday. Heard.
The court also directed the state government to pay a compensation of Rs 17 lakh to the family of the deceased doctor.
Another senior doctor, Dr. Punyabrata Gana, said that they will continue to protest in the state demanding justice for the woman doctor. “Our protest will continue because we believe that other people were also involved,” Gan said. The matter has been suppressed and we will continue our protest.”
