Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar addressed the students at Delhi University on Tuesday. During this address, he said that the Parliament of India is the highest. He highlighted the power of democracy and the importance of constitutional institutions, as well as underlined that every word of persons in constitutional positions is inspired by national interest.
In his address, the Vice President described Parliament as a temple of democracy and said that it represents the aspirations of the people of the country. He said, “Parliament is supreme and the representatives elected by the people are the ultimate masters. It is their responsibility to take a decision in the interest of the country.” Dhankhar appealed to the students to understand democratic values and develop respect for the constitutional structure.
He also emphasized the role of constitutional officials. The Vice President said that the words and actions of the people sitting in such positions are only keeping in mind the national interest. He gave a message to the youth to play an active role in the development of the country and maintain faith in constitutional institutions.
Dhankhar also said that India’s democracy is an example for the world and the youth will have to be aware and active to strengthen it. Emphasizing the importance of education, he said that universities are not only centers of knowledge, but also sources of ideas giving direction to society. Vice Chancellor and other dignitaries of Delhi University were present on the occasion. This address of the Vice President was enthusiastically heard by students and teachers. This statement of Dhankhar is considered to be underlining the supremacy of Parliament and democratic values, which is also important in the current political scenario.
In addition, referring to the decision of the apex court to implement Article 142 of the Constitution, Dhankhar said on Thursday that it has become an nuclear missile against democratic forces, which is available round the clock for the judiciary. Article 142 provides the Supreme Court wide powers to ensure “complete justice” in any case.
