Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar said on Thursday, 10 July 2025 that he would retire at the right time. He made this statement in a funny manner while addressing the first annual conference of the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi. Dhankhar said, “I will retire in August 2027, provided the divine intervention is not there.” His five -year term will end on 10 August 2027.
Dhankhar emphasized India’s intellectual and cultural heritage on this occasion. He said that India’s rise as a global power will be meaningful only when it is with its original thinking and cultural pride. He criticized the tendency to consider Western ideas as universal and to think of Indian knowledge as old. Dhankhar said that India’s strength lies in its fundamental thinking and permanent values.
Referring to historical obstacles, he said that the Islamic invasion gave the first blow to the Indian learning tradition. He also said that the universities of India were established as the center of knowledge before the universities of Europe. Dhankhar mentioned enemies within and outside the country, who try to divide the country on issues like language.
Jagdeep Dhankhar, a senior advocate and former Governor of West Bengal, was elected by the BJP -led NDA as the Vice President. Earlier, he called the ‘socialist’ and ‘secular’ to add the word ‘socialist’ and ‘secular’ to be added to the emergency in the National University of Advanced Legal Studies in Kochi, called the ‘unholy for eternal spirit’.
His statement has given rise to political debate. This attitude of Dhankhar shows his independent thinking and commitment to Indian values. The announcement and ideas of his retirement can intensify cultural and intellectual debate in the country.
