Cracks in the boundary wall of Jagannath temple
Bhubaneswar: Cracks have appeared in the boundary wall of the world famous Jagannath temple. Now the Odisha government has sought help from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to repair it. According to the information, many cracks have appeared in ‘Meghnad Pacheri’, the huge wall that surrounds Shri Jagannath Temple in Puri. Concerns have now arisen regarding the safety of this 12th century temple. The temple servants have expressed concern that dirty water coming from Anandabazar is seeping through these cracks inside its premises. He also claimed that moss has started accumulating on some parts of the wall.

A temple servant said that water is leaking from Meghnad Pacheri for a long time, but the administration has not yet done any repair. The sevadars as well as the devotees have expressed concern over the cracks appearing on the wall encircling the temple and stressed the need for immediate repair work.
Temple administration worried about security
Concerned about the safety of the 12th century temple, the Shri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has requested the ASI to carry out necessary conservation work on the wall. SJTA Chief Administrator Arabinda Padhi said on Sunday, “We are concerned about the safety of Meghnad Pacheri. “ASI officials and our technical team have already inspected the boundary wall, and we are hopeful that ASI will complete the necessary repair work soon.”
Repairs are our priority – Law Minister
SJTA comes under the state law department. Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan reiterated the seriousness of the situation and said repairs would be started immediately to prevent any further problems from arising. He said that we suspect that some things have been done which were prohibited by the Archeology Department and it is possible that the cracks in the wall are due to that. The reasons will be known only after investigation and report. For now our priority is repairs and damage control which will be done soon. ,
