Vande Bharat Sleeper train managed to achieve a maximum speed of 180 kmph in several trials conducted over the last three days on the 40 km long route in Rajasthan. “The trials will continue till the end of this month,” the Railway Ministry said in a press release on Friday. After this, this train will be made available to rail passengers across the country to provide world class long distance travel facilities.”

The ministry also shared a recently released video by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav on ‘X’. She said, “The video shows a glass filled with water next to a mobile phone on a table inside the Vande Bharat sleeper train. “It shows the water level remaining stable even as the train reaches a maximum speed of 180 kilometers per hour, which shows how comfortable this high-speed rail journey will be.”

Trial happening in Rajasthan

The ministry said, “This video was released after a successful three-day trial conducted on January 2, in which the Vande Bharat Sleeper train was seen achieving maximum speed when loaded.” The train managed to achieve a maximum speed of 180 km per hour during the 30 km long journey between Kota and Laban in Rajasthan’s Bundi district on January 2, it said. According to the ministry, “A day earlier, i.e. on the first day of the year 2025, during the 40 km long trial run from Rohalkhurd to Kota, the Vande Bharat Sleeper train had achieved a maximum speed of 180 kilometers per hour.” He said, “On the same day, trains ran at speeds of 170 kmph and 160 kmph on Kota-Nagda and Rohalkhurd-Chau Mahla sections.

Vande Bharat sleeper train will run on these routes

These trials will continue till the end of January under the supervision of RDSO, Lucknow.” According to the ministry, after the completion of the trials, the Commissioner of Railway Safety will evaluate the ability of the train to run at maximum speed. It said that only after passing the final phase of trials, the train will be officially approved and handed over to Indian Railways for regular operations. The Railway Ministry said that the design of Vande Bharat Sleeper Train has been kept like an aircraft and it will be equipped with facilities like automatic doors, very comfortable berths and WiFi. “After these successful trials, rail passengers can expect a world-class travel experience on long distance routes including Kashmir to Kanyakumari, Delhi to Mumbai, Howrah to Chennai,” it said.
