The protesters blocked National Highway No. 12. At present, there is tension in the area and the police is trying to control the situation and open the jam. According to the information, a demonstration against Waqf law was called by Muslim organizations in Umarpur-Banipur area of ​​Raghunathganj police station area. On seeing this, the protesters became furious and started violence. Stones started throwing stones at the police, some people including policemen have also suffered minor injuries. The protesters are demanding to withdraw the Waqf law, they say that the protest will continue until the law is back. The Murshidabad district is a Muslim dominated area from where the incident took place. Ever since the Waqf Amendment Bill introduced the government in Parliament, it was being opposed. After passing the bill from Parliament, the government sent it to President Draupadi Murmu. After the President’s approval, the Bill has now become law.

On the other hand, BJP leader Amit Malviya shared the video of violent demonstrations on his social media account and wrote, “The Muslim crowd has come out on the streets of Murshidabad and is openly calling for the disregard of the Constitution in protest against the Waqf Act.” He further wrote, enough happened and with this demanded Mamata Banerjee’s resignation. Malaviya wrote, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee should either wake up and control the situation or resign from her post.
