Voting for panchayat elections in Assam today, Chief Minister Sarma appealed to voters to cast their vote

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma urged voters to vote in the ongoing Assam Panchayat elections, emphasizing the importance of voting.

On the post of X, he wrote, “I urge every eligible voter to cast their vote in the first phase of Assam Panchayat elections. Your vote matters and will go a long way to strengthen democracy at the ground level.”

Assam government minister and Dibrugarh MLA Prashant Fukan reached the polling station with his family and cast his vote. He said, “Everyone is happy with BJP’s development. BJP will win 90 percent seats in panchayat elections.”

Voting for the first phase of panchayat elections started in the morning. Long queues of voters were seen at most polling stations.

The first phase of the panchayat elections is being held in 14 districts of the state: Sonitpur, Bishwanath, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Charidev, Jorhat, Majuli, Golaghat, Cachar, Halakandi and Sri Bhumi.

The Assam State Election Commission has made all arrangements to conduct independent and fair elections. Security personnel have been deployed at each polling station.

Earlier, the Assam State Election Commissioner said that more than 1.20 lakh polling personnel as well as adequate number of security personnel would be deployed to ensure smooth operation of the election.

The second phase of voting in the remaining 13 districts will be held on May 7 and the counting of votes will be held on 11 May.

More than 1.80 crore voters, including 90.71 lakh male voters, 89.65 lakh female voters and 408 voters, will exercise their franchise at 25007 polling stations in both stages.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) -led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has already won 37 Zilla Parishad seats – 35 to BJP and two Assam Gana Parishad (AGP). The NDA has acquired 288 zonal panchayat seats (259 BJP and 29 AGP) unopposed.
