Waqf Amendment Bill 2024
New Delhi: All opposition MPs have boycotted the meeting of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind and Joint Parliamentary Committee. In fact, a delegation of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind led by its president Maulana Mahmood Asad Madani had held a meeting with the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to present its views and suggestions on the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024. This meeting was held from 11 am to noon in the Main Committee Room of Parliament House Annexe.
Opposition MPs boycotted the meeting
Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind opposed the Waqf Amendment Bill in JPC. All the opposition MPs also boycotted the JPC meeting on the Waqf Amendment Bill. Opposition MPs were angry with the words of Karnataka Minorities Commission Chairman Anwar Maniappadi. Opposition MPs allege that Anwar was not talking about the Waqf Amendment Bill but on other issues in the JPC meeting.
Opposition MPs like Congress’s Gaurav Gogoi and Imran Masood, DMK’s A Raja, Shiv Sena’s (UBT) Arvind Sawant, AIMIM’s Asaduddin Owaisi, Samajwadi Party’s Mohibullah and Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Sanjay Singh created a ruckus. These leaders walked out of the meeting and criticized the proceedings of the meeting.
Opposition MPs on Monday boycotted the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) meeting on the Waqf Amendment Bill. The members alleged that the presentation by Anwar Manipadi, former chairman of the Karnataka State Minorities Commission and Karnataka Minorities Development Corporation, was not about the Waqf Bill. He alleged that Anwar is making unnecessary allegations against the Karnataka government and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, which is not in line with the committee and is not acceptable.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant said he has boycotted the meeting as the committee is not working with principles. Sawant said, “We have boycotted because the committee is not working with its principles and norms. Morally and ideologically they are wrong.”
Opposition MPs will contact the Lok Sabha Speaker
Opposition members called a separate meeting to discuss their next step. They have decided to approach the Speaker of the Lok Sabha to discuss all their concerns regarding the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf Bill.
