New Delhi. Opposition parties, including the Shiv Sena of the Congress and the Uddhav Thackeray faction, have decided to oppose the Waqf Amendment Bill. In the presence of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, leaders of opposition parties held a meeting on Tuesday evening. In the meeting, opposition parties made their strategy on the Waqf Amendment Bill. According to sources, the opposition has decided that amendment will be given on its behalf when the Waqf Amendment Bill is introduced in the Lok Sabha. These amendments will be the same, which the opposition members gave them to the JPC during the discussion on the Waqf Amendment Bill and were not considered.
However, expectation is low that the amendments given by the opposition will be able to get a place in the Waqf Amendment Bill. The reason for this is that the opposition does not have the necessary number in the Lok Sabha. The number of MPs required for the majority in the Lok Sabha is 272. Chandrababu Naidu has 16 MPs from TDP and NDA, including Nitish Kumar’s 12 JDU MPs. The number of opposition MPs including the Congress is 233. Even if some other MPs support the opposition, there will still be a total of 248 MPs in his favor. For this reason, it is very difficult to include amendments given by opposition parties in the Waqf Amendment Bill. Nevertheless, by giving amendments, the opposition can show that we tried.
Jagdambika Pal, the President of JPC about the Waqf Amendment Bill, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Welfare Minister Kiren Rijiju are constantly accusing the opposition that he is lying. The allegation has also been made on the opposition by the government that it is confusing Muslims. The government has clearly stated that there will be no threat to any Waqf property of Muslims. At the same time, Muslim organizations and Muslim leaders are objecting to why non -Muslim members are being arranged in Waqf Boards through the Waqf Amendment Bill? They are calling this system unconstitutional.
