New Delhi. The Central Government is going to introduce the Waqf Amendment Bill in Parliament after Eid. It is believed that the Waqf Amendment Bill will be introduced in the Lok Sabha on 1 April. According to media reports, Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP and Chirag Paswan’s LJP-R have decided to support the Waqf Amendment Bill. The government is talking to Nitish Kumar’s JDU and some other parties. The Waqf Amendment Bill is for amending the constitution. In such a situation, the Waqf Amendment Bill will have to be passed from the Rajya Sabha besides the Lok Sabha. The NDA is close to the majority in the Rajya Sabha. If the Modi government with the BJD, YSRCP and Uddhav Thackeray takes the Shiv Sena in favor, the Waqf Amendment Bill will also be passed from the Rajya Sabha.
The second phase of the budget session of Parliament will end on 4 April. In such a situation, if the government offers a bill in the Lok Sabha on 1 April, then it is probably not possible to pass it from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha in 3 days. In such a situation, the government will make a detailed discussion on the Waqf Amendment Bill and then the bill will be passed in the monsoon session of Parliament. The Waqf Amendment Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha in August 2024 by Minority Welfare Minister Kiren Rijiju. After which the Waqf Amendment Bill was sent to JPC for detailed discussion with opposition parties. JPC suggested several amendments to the Waqf Amendment Bill. For this, JPC also took a report of Muslim organizations.
All Muslim organizations including All India Muslim Personal Law Board have opposed the Waqf Amendment Bill. The Muslim Personal Law Board on Monday demonstrated against the Waqf Amendment Bill at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. All the opposition leaders also participated in the performance of the Muslim Personal Law Board. The board and other Muslim organizations allege that the government wants to capture Waqf’s properties by passing the Waqf Amendment Bill. They are also exasperated as to why there is a provision to keep non -Muslim members in Waqf. Muslim organizations have threatened that if the Waqf Amendment Bill is passed, there will be a protest like Shaheen Bagh across the country. In such a situation, the government will also have to see that the situation of law and order should not be disturbed anywhere.
