Congress MLA I.C. Balakrishnan and three others were accused by party’s Wayanad district unit official N.M. A case has been registered against Vijayan for abetting suicide. Police gave this information on Thursday.
A senior police officer from the district confirmed that the section of abetment of suicide under the Indian Code of Justice (BNS) has been added to the FIR in connection with the death of Vijayan and his son.
The official also confirmed that Balakrishnan and Wayanad District Congress Committee President N.D. Appachan, along with three others whose names were in Vijayan’s suicide note, have been made accused in the case.
“Action has been taken on the basis of Vijayan’s suicide note,” the officer said.
Wayanad District Congress Committee treasurer Vijayan, 78, and his son Jijesh, 38, were admitted to Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital after attempting suicide where they died on December 27, 2024.
After this incident, a storm arose in the politics of the state. The ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) has alleged that the duo took the step because of an employment scam involving a cooperative bank involving Balakrishnan.
There are allegations that Vijayan, allegedly at the behest of Balakrishnan, took bribes from people seeking jobs in a Congress-controlled cooperative bank as a party official.
