New Delhi. Due to the latest western disturbance which has been active since January 10, the weather has changed in the states from west to east of North India. Most of the places are cloudy. It is raining with snowfall in the hilly states. At the same time, there is news of light to moderate rain in many states including Delhi and UP. The Meteorological Department has now issued a forecast regarding fog. According to the Meteorological Department, due to western disturbance, there may be dense fog in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, UP, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan till January 16. At the same time, there may be snowfall and rain in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh from 15 to 17 January. The Meteorological Department has expressed the possibility of light rain in Rajasthan also during this period.

According to the Meteorological Department, there is no possibility of relief from cold in Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The Meteorological Department has said that along with rain, snowfall will also be seen in some areas of Jammu and Kashmir. At the same time, there may be light rain or drizzle in Delhi and surrounding areas. Light rain was seen in many districts including UP capital Lucknow. This is likely to continue till tomorrow. It is getting quite cold in Punjab and Haryana also. Due to the impact of the latest western disturbance, snowfall in the mountains may further increase the cold in both the states and other states in the plains. Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, northern parts of Odisha and many areas of West Bengal are also experiencing severe cold. Along with this, some more western disturbances may also come in the coming time.

This year the cold is likely to persist till the first or second week of March. The Meteorological Department has already said that this year it is going to be very cold due to La Nina effect. Under the La Nina effect, the sea surface temperature becomes lower than that of the land. At the same time, cold winds coming from the Middle East reach India via Afghanistan and Pakistan. Where due to the collision of these winds with the Himalayas, snowfall is seen in the hilly states and rain in the plains. These winds are called western disturbances.
