According to the Meteorological Department, western disturbance may become active in the Himalayan states of Jammu-Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh from Tuesday i.e. October 29. Due to western disturbance, there will be snowfall in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Apart from this, there is also a possibility of rain in the plains of both the states. Cold hits the plains only after snowfall in the hilly areas. In such a situation, it is expected that by the second week of November it will start getting very cold in the plains.
The Meteorological Department has already told that due to the effect of La Nina, there is going to be severe cold this year. During La Nina the temperature of land and sea surface becomes the same. Earlier, from December 2023 to March 2024, people had to face extreme cold and fog from hilly states to plain areas. This year it is expected to be even colder than that. Every year in the plains of the country, cold starts increasing from the second or third week of November. The coldest weather lasts from December to the third week of February. Every year during the winter season, cold winds come from Afghanistan and Pakistan and this is called Western Disturbance.
Due to western disturbance it also rains and this prevents dry cold. Due to moisture in the environment, people do not have to face physical problems caused by dry cold. In 2023, there were continuous western disturbances during the cold season. This time too, if there are continuous western disturbances, people may have to face severe cold for a long time.
