Western Railway has announced that it will run additional trains from Ahmedabad after a tragic accident in Air India flight to London.
Let me tell you that the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft, including 242 people, were aboard, on Thursday afternoon, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel crashed shortly after flying from the International Airport.
Subsequently, the flight operations at the airport were postponed until next notice, resulting in the railway steps to overcome the disruption in the journey.
Western Railway has also sent its disaster management team along with medical personnel and RPF employees to assist the Gujarat government and other agencies involved in relief and rescue operations.
The Railways said in a statement, “After the tragic Ahmedabad plane crash, the disaster management team of Western Railway is actively supporting relief and rescue operations at the scene, maintaining close coordination with the state.
It said, “Western Railway Medical Team and RPF (Railway Protection Force) personnel have also been deployed to assist in rescue operations. In addition, Western Railway will run additional trains from Ahmedabad on the basis of demand. Currently, a train for Ahmedabad to Mumbai and a train for Delhi is being planned.”
Meanwhile, the Gujarat government has sent three teams with 90 personnel of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to the accident site from Gandhinagar to assist in rescue operations.
According to senior police officials, the aircraft crashed in a doctor’s hostel located just outside the circumference of the airport. Ahmedabad Joint Commissioner of Police Jaipal Singh Rathore told reporters, “After the flight, the aircraft crashed here and after the initial investigation, we came to know that the aircraft crashed into a building, which is a hostel of doctors.”
Ahmedabad City Police has released an emergency helpline number for the assistance and information related to the accident.
Ahmedabad Police said in a post on X, “Police emergency services related to Ahmedabad aircraft accident and necessary information are Ahmedabad City Police Emergency Number 07925620359.”
According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the Air India aircraft to London crashed in Meghani Nagar area of Ahmedabad after flying at 01:38 pm on Thursday. The Boeing aircraft had 242 people, including 12 crew members.
