Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Friday said without naming the Congress Parliamentary Party chief Sonia Gandhi that his comment on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill is not in accordance with unfortunate and parliamentary dignity. Rajya Sabha member Sonia Gandhi had alleged that the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 has been forcibly passed. This bill is a public attack on the Constitution. Birla also said that it is not appropriate to raise questions on the Lok Sabha proceedings by a senior member on the last day of the budget session by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju.

This bill public attack on constitution- Sonia Gandhi

Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) chief Sonia Gandhi on Thursday accused the government of arbitrarily passing the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, claiming that the bill was a public attack on the Constitution. This is part of the well-planned strategy of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to keep the society in a state of permanent polarization.

Sonia Gandhi surrounded the government on many other issues

He had attacked the government and Prime Minister Modi over the ‘one nation, one election’ bill, the functioning of the Election Commission, the political situation in the neighboring countries of India, the deadlock in the Parliament, the deadlock in the Parliament, the deadlock in the Parliament, the deadlock in the Parliament, the deadlock in the Parliament, the deadlock in the Parliament, the deadlock in the Parliament, the deadlock in the Parliament, and the government and Prime Minister Modi over many other subjects.

Discussion on this bill in the House was discussed- Rijiju

Union Minister Reijiju said in the Lok Sabha, ‘ESMA Act, 1981 was discussed 16 hours 51 minutes. Breaking this record, the Waqf (Amendment) Bill was discussed 17 hours and two minutes in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. It is historical. This is how the longest discussion took place. He said without naming Sonia Gandhi, ‘Many MPs told me that a member of the second House alleged that the bill was passed by’ bulldoz ‘without discussion. The bill was passed by following the rules and process. Instead of praising it, it was said that the bill was passed by ‘bulldoz’.

Three times the vote was divided on the bill

Rijiju urged the Lok Sabha Speaker to give a system on this. Birla said, ‘The Minister of Parliamentary Affairs said that there is a senior Congress member, who has been a member of this House and is now a member of the other House, he has made a statement in the Parliament complex that the Waqf (Amendment) Bill was forcibly passed. The Waqf Amendment Bill was discussed by the House 13 hours and 53 minutes. In which all the members gave their views. Three times the vote was divided on this bill.

This is not in accordance with parliamentary dignity- Birla

He said that hence this bill was passed according to the rules of the House. Birla said that it is extremely unfortunate that the question was raised by a senior member on the proceedings of the House. He also said that this is not appropriate and is not in accordance with parliamentary dignity. The members of the Congress also created a ruckus in the House urging them to speak. A few minutes later, Birla adjourned the House’s meeting indefinitely. (With language input)
